The Onges make small dugout canoes called the Dane. Most Onge people would know how to make the canoe, but some have expert skills in shaping and the hull.
The photo series here helps us have a closer look at the Dane canoes of the Onge people. Here Tai, a member of the Onge community, shows us the fish catching practices using a bow and a rudimentary harpoon as arrow.
Tai is using the dane canoe, in which the boom is 1/2 the length of dugout, measured tip to tip. In a longer boat as many as 5 booms can be attached from mangrove. For spars, they make holes of 1/2 width of float hammer in spars.
