The various kinds of canoe boats found on the Chowra and Car Nicobar group of islands serve different purposes. The model of the outrigger canoes is more or less the same, but the wood used, size, number of booms and spars, treatment of the hull and many other features differ.
Photographed here are the fishing canoes of Chowra. It has a small outrigger and in this, one person rows, other fishes. Its striking characteristic is the absence of wash strake and method of laying cross planks.
